Product Description

Artist: Ghorwane

Based on the happy, upbeat reggae-jazz rhythms of Mozambican group Ghorwane, you would never guess the cultural pain being disguised behind those festive horn sections. Ravaged by war and neglected by the Frelimo government, the people of this region have dealt with hard times, from children living on the street to severe lack of medical attention in hospitals. Ghorwane, named after a lake in the Gaza province that's famous for never running dry, shows the hope and resolve of these brave people through their socially conscious lyrics depicting daily life in Mozambique. MAJURUGENTA features traditional Mozambican rhythms colored with brass melodies, relaxed percussion and potent vocals. Also featured is the sax playing of Ghorwane member Jose "Zeca" Alage, who was tragically beaten to death in 1993
